Practice Makes Perfect

Usually in music we only get to experience the end result, especially in your favorite genre; the CD or live show that comes after hours GOGOand hours of training for perfection. I had the pleasure of sitting in on a practice of Live Band last night, an up-and-coming go-go band from Prince George’s County. I got to see all the background and practice that goes into the pockets, sockets, and bounce beats we party to at a live go-go or while listening to your favorite band’s new CD. I was able to see some of my favorite songs “go-goized” right in front of my eyes. From “Between the Sheets” to “Buffalo Soldier“ they threw congos or toms or a sax behind the lyrics and infused a little of the DMV into the song. The backline obviously had played together for awhile and fed off each other’s energy and rhythm. I’ll definitely be attending more practices of the Live Band and following their progression.
