NEW YORK IS THE FASHION CAPITOL…BUT DC IS THE URBAN FASHION CAPITAL! Introducing DC’s Own Emore J of EMORE J COUTURE!

Home of “go-go” music, the infamous “mumbo” chicken wing sauce and yes FASHION! We all know New York is the fashion capital…but when it comes to urban fashion DC takes the cake! Go on any college campus and chances are you would be able to point out a DC girl from the others and a DC guy from the crowd. The DMV urban style has always been unique…since way back when people were rockin slouch socks. DC is also home to many independent local designers. Not many other cities can say they wear clothes from local designers. DDTP, MADNESS, ALL-DAZ, SHOOTERS GEAR, SCRAPAZ, HOBO, MUCHUNU, AJA-IMANI…all represent DC. Although many of these labels are no longer a trend, the fact remains that DC has urban fashion on lock.

DC’s fashion week served as an outlet to showcase DC’s fashion sense. The Menswear fashion show showcased a range of fashion from street gear to corporate-world attire. Each designer contributed a different element to the Menswear fashion show. Colombian native Stella Bonds described her fashion line as “old world meets new world” with a Colombian flare. Suave, debonair and just outright sexy are a few words to describe Andrew Nowell’s collection. However, one of the most eclectic fashions by far is DC’s own Emore J. Couture. Dressed in all black and gold from head to toe, Emore J mirrored his runway items. He dressed and looked as though…if-need-be, he could walk the runway and model his own clothes. Along with a fierce and distinct style Emore J has the personality to match. Caught in the midst of directing models, making last minute wardrobe changes and taking photo’s for the press; I was able to nab Emore J for a brief interview with DMV Unplugged.

DMV Unplugged: For those that may not be familiar with the Emore J line…how would you describe your line of fashion?
Emore J: I would describe my work as avant-garde, extremely high fashion, period of over the edge. An over kill, but a good one!
DMV Unplugged: Tell the DMV a little about yourself…when did you start? What inspired you? And who’s your fashion icon?
Emore J: Well…the story is always the same, I think like most designers it started in high school. My first piece was inspired by Lil Kim in the “No matter what they say” video. Where she wore those bleached jeans…and I wanted them low-rise just like that for school (laughs) And I got some jeans and cut them up and wore them to school and got sent home and I loved every bit of it! Every Friday…I’d call it fashion Fridays.

My inspiration was pretty much society, and seeing how things are going. It deals with a detachment from humanity and with this collection; I designed it so dark and morbid for a reason. I feel that in this day of technology people are inclined to text more so than to talk and with this collection its shows that there is no human connection anymore. So with this collection I wanted to make it kinda dark and represent what I see happening.
DMV Unplugged: What do you have in the works? Any upcoming shows or events the DMV should know about?
Emore J: A new collection a new showcase which will be held in Baltimore. Coming up I’m going to be featured on Los Angeles’ monthly on 92.5 KYHY Burbank radio.
DMV Unplugged: Lastly, do you have a website showcasing the collection you displayed tonight?
Emore J: Yes, there are so many places you can go to get Emore J Couture. You can head to my website which is emorejcoutre.web.com or there’s always my YouTube channel where you can go to see my fashion media, my interviews and the easiest way to get to me is to go to Google or Yahoo and type my name in.

-If I don’t tell you…who will?
