Raemu
Pages: 1 2

Raemu is a print and runway model from Largo, MD. This Criminology and Criminal Justice major from the University of Maryland has both the beauty and smarts to be on top. DMVUnplugged.com caught up with the woman and spoke to her about her modeling career, what drives her in the modeling world and her aspirations.

DMVUnplugged.com: To start, you have a very unique name. Where did you get the name Raemu from?

R: I get it from my legal 1st name Ogheneruemu.

DMV: And that is a Nigerian name, right?

R: Yes it is.

DMV: How long have you been modeling in the DMV area?

R: Oh wow! Uh let’s see, I started getting into it heavy around 2004.

DMV: So you’ve been doing it for about 5 years now. So what types of modeling gigs have you been apart of?

R: I’ve done runway shows, showcases for MUAs [Makeup Artists] and clothing labels, music video shoots, and print jobs.

DMV: Sounds like you’ve done quite a bit. What music videos have you been in and what notable print work have you done?

R: Let’s see…I’ve done some independent movies in New York; background work for a feature film ‘The Proposal’ with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds; Whitney Houston’s ‘Million Dollar Bill’; and a triple play commercial, just finished filming and slated to air soon.

DMV: That’s a pretty impressive resume you have. So tell me what’s so great about modeling?

R: I learned a long time ago that it’s not about being pretty because there’s plenty of those walking around. Modeling (and I know I’m going to sound so cliché) isn’t about being pretty but it really is the craft of honing your skills of selling the client’s pieces or editorial’s vision. Prime example would be the freaking America’s Next Top Model show. Not every girl on there is drop dead gorgeous but it’s the ones that understand their strengths and weaknesses, the industry, and their market, that succeed.

DMV: If you weren’t modeling what would you be doing?

R: Pole dancing fo sho! I’ve got mad love for those girls! — but on the real I took a class and got a serious workout from it and got a different perspective about those girls. Honestly, I’d probably be down south in Atlanta or the Carolinas with a boring 9-5′er but with a home I own.

DMV: So you must have something that keeps your drive going. Tell me what separates you from the other models? What drives you?

R: My looks for one are different. I don’t look like everybody else (God Bless my good genes) and my physique is on point for a petite person.

Besides, paying off freakin SallieMae, helping my family (mom and little brother) out and those close and dear to me and showing the world my talent as a model and actress drives me. Trust and believe, I know in my heart that modeling and acting is something I am here to do. I feel that’s only a small part of my purpose here on this Earth. I continue to pray everyday, or as close to that, that God will allow me to be put in a position where my career may be benefited and I of course can help out others as well.continued on page 2
